Amazing food and the price is incredible. For 5 people with drinks and food we paid just over $200. Very classic Mexican restaurant, it's clean, and the food came out fast and hot.
Tried the main Red Iguana a while ago and was advised by the waitress to try RI2 as that's where the locals tend to go. So here we were. We had to wait but the restaurant itself was much bigger. We were glad to get a patio spot. The chips, salsa and drinks were just like the other location. Both of us did try new platters that we didn't love as much as our first time but that's our fault. Since we are now locals to Salt Lake we will definitely be back to this location.
Intermountain mole maestros! These legendary sons of bitches have been slathering out the last word in Salt Lake Mexican food for decades and have expanded into the equally-tasty, more-spacious-if-minorly-less-quaint Red Iguana 2. My favorite is the Puntas de Filete a la Norteña, which is served in an almond mole that feels like a warm hug from the inside of your stomach. But don't skip out on the other moles either. The "regular" enchilada is practically a mole itself, and their Tacos Don Ramon and Chile Verde are fantastic as well. This reviewer does NOT approve of Ramon's Fish Tacos, however. They are dry, bland, and are a blight on the menu of this epic experience.
The staff is quite knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. They would pretty regularly come by to see how we were doing and refill our drinks. I ordered the Killer Nachos and the serving size is so big I couldn't finish them. They were pretty tasty but not the most amazing nachos I've ever had. A bit too heavy with sauces. This location is WAY too close to the train tracks. Any time a train would go by (which felt like every 5-10 minutes) it was so loud that I could barely carry on a conversation with my coworkers who were with me.
Goodness gracious. Sorry, HOLY MOLE. If I had one critique, it was the hot sauce. It wasn't that hot. If I had a second critique, it would be the lack of air conditioning. It was a little toasty. But everything else was seriously amazing. The service, the cucumber margaritas, the entrees and yes, the mole sampler plate. Just superb. Luckily for me, someone ordered dessert, so I got a second cucumber margarita with Tajin. Superb. Can I say that too many times? When we showed up there were people EVERYWHERE, waiting for a seat. We checked in (35 minute wait for 5 people) and headed to the back to the back area bar (it's a thing, I promise). We had barely gotten our drinks and our name was called. We walked to the front, to walk back to the back. Ha! For the record it was 13 minutes after we checked in. One of the guys in our group timed it. Cause, you know, Karens... whatcha gonna do. Our server was awesome. The chips. AWESOME. The salsa. The Mole. Awesome. It was all around delicious. There are so many tasty options. Something for everyone. I can't wait to go back. (I'm still gonna hold that Ninfas in Houston, Texas is the best Mexican I've ever had, but this, for the moment, is a close second).
* Party of 5 and we got sat immediately (I've heard the wait can be extremely long) * Amazing service *Great food *Great vibes throughout the restaurant 10/10!
How good is this place, you ask? I have been here four times in the past 29 days. It is the first place I suggest when someone visits SLC, and I want to go here for every occasion. Each time, I have tired something different, and every plate I order is delectable. It is pure tastiness. The chile verde, the mole, the taco, the nachos... everything is devine. Although they give you generous portions that rid you of any hunger, I crave the flavor immediately after finishing. The atmosphere is always fun and vibrant. The service is always top notch. This is a wonderful place to dine alone, go on a romantic date, or hold a party of 30 people. This restaurant is perfect.
Delicious looking appetizers but we knew in advance that portions were large so we skipped them...great margarita and drink selection! We really loved: chicken Enchiladas Suizas,* Mango Enchiladas with pork, Mole Coladaradita with carnitas, * Mole Amarillo with Chicken. * our favorites. Great rice and beans as sides. Colorful ambience with great Mexican art. Friendly wait staff, great service
Celebrated a fantastic belated birthday lunch for a dear friend today! Daniel was a great server and got us everything we needed! We each got a Pacifico and shared chips, salsa and guacamole! I had the dinner salad with pepitas, tomatoes and napoles. Delicious!! My friend had the shrimp quesadilla with a side of mole. Everything was great! Fun way to celebrate my friend! Love the vibe here!! It's always so relaxed and inviting!! Can't wait to come back again!!
